Facilities at Markinch Bowling Club

Although regular entertainment is no longer provided in the Clubhouse, members should watch the notice boards, as there will be entertainment at some times during the season. There is also a comfortable lounge with television for a more relaxed evening.

A full member can hire the use of the hall for a function (e.g. birthday party, anniversary etc.) and catering can be provided by the ladies of the Club at very competitive rates. Outside caterers, with necessary hygiene qualifications, are allowed to use the excellent kitchen facilities at a small surcharge. The hire of the hall has been extended to include requests for functions on Saturday evenings.

The outdoor season starts early April and the green closes in early October. During the season there are numerous ladies, gents and mixed friendly fixtures played against other bowling clubs. There are also internal competitions played throughout the season and the club plays in the Wemyss & District League, which has a Senior League, as well as a Championship League of eight clubs and a Division 2 of eight clubs, with promotion and relegation between the two leagues. The Wemyss League also have their own singe hand, junior single hand, pairs, senior pairs, triples and rink competitions  which members can enter, if they desire. The Club also plays in the Kirkcaldy District Triples League, with nine players required for games being played every Tuesday evening.

When the green closes in October the carpet bowling season starts with internal competitions and league fixtures against other local clubs. The hall in the clubhouse is large enough to lay two carpets and carpet bowls are played during the day and in evenings.

Membership

The fees for season 2012 remain at £95 for full membership, which includes entry into all competitions, travel and meals for all friendly fixtures and the opportunity to play carpet bowls in the Club when the green is closed during the winter months.

The cost to join the Junior bowling section is only £7, where tuition from qualified coaches is available, along with participation in various junior competition. A social membership is also available at £20 (single) or £40 (couple), which allows entry into the Club at all times. A new "indoor membership" can be applied for, which allows older members, who can no longer play bowls outdoors, to play in the carpet bowling section. The cost of this membership has been set at £45.
