Facilities at Markinch Bowling Club

There is occasional entertainment in the Clubhouse, with “eyes down” for bingo at 7.30pm, followed by live music and dancing until 11.45pm. There is also a comfortable lounge with television for a more relaxed evening.

The well decorated hall, with a large dance floor, is available for hire for a function (e.g. birthday party, anniversary etc.) and catering can be provided by the ladies of the Club at very competitive rates. Outside caterers, with necessary hygiene qualifications, are allowed to use the excellent kitchen facilities at a small surcharge. The hire of the hall has been extended to include requests for functions on Saturday evenings. Any person, interested in hiring the facilities, should contact the Club Secretary, Donna Comrie (Mob: 07505939303), who will provide the application forms to be completed and supply all necessary information concerning the costs of the hire.

The outdoor season starts early April and the green closes in early October. During the season there are numerous ladies, gents and mixed friendly fixtures played against other bowling clubs. There are also internal competitions played throughout the season and the club plays in the Wemyss & District League, which has a Senior League, as well as a Championship League of eight clubs and a Division 2 of eight clubs, with promotion and relegation between the two leagues. The Wemyss League also have their own singe hand, junior single hand, pairs, senior pairs, triples and rink competitions  which members can enter, if they desire.

When the green closes in October the carpet bowling season starts with internal competitions and league fixtures against other local clubs. The hall in the clubhouse is large enough to lay two carpets and carpet bowls are played during the day and in evenings.

The cost to join the Junior bowling section is only £10, where tuition from qualified coaches is available, along with participation in various junior competition. A social membership is also available at £20, which allows entry into the Club at all times. A new "indoor membership" can be applied for, which allows older members, who can no longer play bowls outdoors, plus others who do not want to play outdoor bowls, to play in the carpet bowling section. The cost of this membership has been set at £52.50p.

The fees for season 2015 are £105 for full membership, which includes entry into all competitions, travel and meals for all friendly fixtures and the opportunity to play carpet bowls in the Club when the green is closed during the winter months.

Markinch Bowling Club

Members Newsletter

The breakdown of members this year is as follows :-

Full members - 79

Junior members - 7

Indoor members - 2

Honorary members - 6

Social members - 21

This is a reduction of members from last year, which is disappointing. All members should be trying to encourage friends and relatives to come along and give bowls a try. Who knows, they may enjoy it and join our Club.

Friendly Fixtures

There are 30 friendly games on the fixture card this year. This is made up of 6 Ladies, 6 Gents and 20 mixed/joint games. These games are very important to the Club and hopefully members will help the skips fill their rinks by playing whenever possible. A copy of the fixture card will be available after Opening Day (1 per member)

Presentation Dance

The annual Presentation of Trophies Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday 21st November and hopefully members will come along and give their support.

Kdy & Central Fife Sports Awards

There were two nominees from Markinch B.C., at the above awards ceremony. Havana Clark received the runners-up prize in the Junior Section for her bowling achievements during 2014. The Triples of Tom Pettigrew, Ryan Crawford and Wayne Hogg received the trophy for winning the Team Award, after winning the British Isles Triples Championship in June last year.

The Club will again have four sponsored competitions this year. The Co-operative Funeralcare sponsored Open Pairs is scheduled for Sunday 14th June. The Invitation Fours, sponsored by Crosbie Matthew Funeral Directors will be held on Sunday 5th July. The Open Triples will be sponsored by Bellhaven this year and this will be held on Sunday 16th August. The Junior Triples competition, which John and Laura Marshall have sponsored since its introduction is on the fixture card for Sunday 23 August. The Club is grateful for the financial support from our sponsors.

There was success this year with top class entertainment performing in the Club at only £3 per ticket. This will be repeated again during the season so why not come along and support your Club. Eyes down for bingo at 7.30pm. The dates will be displayed on the Clubhouse notice board.

E-Mail Address.

Any member who has an e-mail address, or has access to one, should give this to Bill Bell, Match Secretary, as you will automatically receive a copy of the Glenrothes Gazette report, which is usually printed each week. It is also a great way to keep members informed on what is happening at the Club.

The AGM will be held on Monday 14th December at 7.00pm in the main Clubhouse.

The players who will be representing Markinch in the Fife competitions this year are listed on the notice board. The competitions start on Thursday 7th May. The draw for all categories will be displayed on the notice board once issued.

Members who want to play in any of the six Wemyss competitions must complete their entry form and pass this, along with the money to the Match Secretary by Monday 27th April.
